CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is being established at numerous companies. This year, during the CIO VIP Dinner (on the 17th of November) an auction – CharITy - has been held, led by Christie’s. CIOs and partners have donated various lots for the auction, the proceeds of which will go to several carefully selected institutions/charities. We are aiming for sky-high bids!

Christie's

About Christie's
James Christie started auctioning wine and bales of hay in 1766 - 240 years later, his company has become one of the world’s leading auctioneers with 90 international offices and 16 auction houses in cities such as London, New York, Paris, Geneva, Milan, Tel Aviv and Hong Kong. Christie’s is a leader in the developments on the international art market with successful auctions and exhibitions in Mumbai, Dubai and Beijing. Christie’s turnover increased by 36% to € 4.67 billion in 2006; the largest total ever made by an auction house.

Christie’s Amsterdam had its best year ever in 2006 by selling € 63.5 worth of objets d’art in 35 auctions. The auction house offered more than 16,000 works of art of which 58 were auctioned for more than € 100,000. The magical million euro limit was crossed twice, both in sales of works by B.C Koekkoek. A winter landscape sold for € 1,300,000, while an ice view (found under a British spare bed) was the most expensive painting ever auctioned in the Netherlands at € 1,412,000. Christie’s set another record as well: A Viennese musical secretaire sold for € 314,400 was the most expensive piece of furniture ever gavelled at a Dutch auction.

Arno Verkade
Department Head
Christie’s Amsterdam

Arno Verkade (Haarlem 1967) joined Christie’s Amsterdam as a student and, after completing his studies, specialised in Nineteenth Century Art and South East Asian pictures. At the moment Arno is head of the Post War and Contemporary Art Department, in which capacity he was the first to organise a successful sculpture auction in the Netherlands. He has been instrumental in securing several significant works, including Jan Toorop’s portrait of Mrs. de Lange, which sold for €818.400, still the highest price ever for a twentieth century painting in the Netherlands. Arno Verkade is Associate Director and member of Christie’s International Modern Art department. He is board member of the Dutch Federation TMV (authorised registered valuers/appraisers, brokers and auctioneers).

The CharITy auction at the CIO VIP Diner of 2009 was a tremendous success, allowing
the foundation to disburse € 43,500 to various causes. Since CSR (Corporate
Social Responsibility) has become an increasingly important issue at many companies,
this year we aim to surpass this achievement with an even bigger fundraiser!

Several CIOs and partners contribute for the auction, which are detailed in this brochure. And just like other years, we intend to work together to make sure the bids are as high as possible!
