Fons Trompenaars, THT Intercultural Management
Fons Trompenaars studied Economics at the Free University of Amsterdam and later earned a Ph.D. from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, with a dissertation on differences in conceptions of organizational structure in various cultures. He experienced cultural differences firsthand at home, where he grew up speaking both French and Dutch, and then later at work with Shell in nine countries. Fons joined Shell in 1981 and moved into the Personnel Division for Shell in Rotterdam. From 1985, he worked in job classification and management development at the Shell Research Laboratories in Amsterdam. In 1989 he founded the Centre for International Business Studies, a consulting and training organization for international management. Since 1998 we operate as Trompenaars Hampden-Turner. Fons Trompenaars has worked as a consultant for Shell, BP, ICI, Philips, Heineken, TRW, Mars, Motorola, General Motors, Nike, Cable and Wireless, CSM and Merrill Lynch.
Fons wrote Riding the Waves of Culture, Understanding Cultural Diversity in Business. This book sold over 120,000 copies and was translated into French, German, Dutch, Korean, Danish, Turkish, Chinese, Hungarian and Portuguese. He is co-author of Seven Cultures of Capitalism, Building Cross-Cultural Competence and 21 Leaders for the 21st Century with Charles Hampden-Turner. Recently he published Innovating in a Global Crisis, a dynamic new take on creativity and innovation in tough times.
In 1991 Fons was awarded the International Professional Practice Area Research Award by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). He was mentioned as one of the top 5 management consultants, next to Michael Porter, Tom Peters and Edward de Bono in a leading Business magazine in August 1999. In 1994 the translation of his book Riding the Waves of Culture was awarded "Book of the Year" by the Order of Experts and Consultants on Organization (OOA), a Dutch management organization.

Steve Schuckenbrock, President, Large Enterprise, Dell
CIOs are now rationalizing applications; they are consolidating and standardizing their infrastructure; and they are virtualizing everything.
Steve Schuckenbrock serves as president, Large Enterprise, for Dell. In this role, he leads the delivery of innovative and globally consistent Dell solutions and services to the world’s largest corporate IT users.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Schuckenbrock was senior vice president, Global Services, and Dell’s chief information officer (CIO). In these roles, he led Dell’s multibillion-dollar services business with global responsibility for Dell’s enterprise service offerings, and as CIO, oversaw the company’s worldwide information systems and technology infrastructure. Prior to Dell, Mr. Schuckenbrock was co-chief operating officer and executive vice president of global sales and services for EDS. Before joining EDS in 2003, he was chief operating officer of The Feld Group, an IT consulting organization.
As global CIO for PepsiCo from 1998 to 2000, Mr. Schuckenbrock developed and established the Business Solutions Group. He served as global CIO for PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay from 1995 to 1998. Mr. Schuckenbrock earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Elon University.
Dr. Helmut Reisinger - Senior Vice President Europe, Orange Business Services
Dr. Helmut Reisinger is senior vice president of Orange Business Services and member of France Telecom’s group Executive Committee. Reisinger is be responsible for positioning Orange Business Services as the leading enterprise communications services provider overseeing the delivery of the full portfolio of value-added service offerings to customers throughout Western and Central Europe (including Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia). Reisinger reports directly to Barbara Dalibard, president and CEO of Orange Business Services.
Mr. Reisinger has over 15 years experience in enterprise technology. Prior to joining Orange Business Services, Reisinger was vice president for Western Europe at Avaya Inc. Before joining Avaya, Reisinger was CEO of private equity owned NextiraOne Germany and a member of the European Executive Committee and also had several leadership positions during his nine-year career with Alcatel Austria.
Orange Business Services is the brand of France Telecom for services offered to businesses worldwide. France Telecom is the number three mobile operator and the number one provider of broadband internet services in Europe and one of the world leaders in providing telecommunication services to multinational companies.
Maggy McClelland, Managing Director of COLT Managed Services (CMS)
Maggy McClelland was appointed Managing Director of COLT Managed Services (CMS) Division in December 2008.
Prior to joining COLT, Maggy spent five years at BT, most recently holding the position of President Global Business Operations & Professional Services in their Global Services business.Before BT, Maggy was a Corporate Officer and General Manager of Motorola Professional Services, and has also worked for IBM, CSC (management consultants) and British Gas. Maggy is also on the Board of Partnership Sourcing Ltd (PSL) and a member of the Advisory Board of Sutherland Global Services. She participates in a number of UK Government led initiatives including Transition to Teaching, a programme sponsored by the UK Secretary of State for Education, and the UK ICT Marketing Strategy Implementation Board. Maggy is also an active participant in the Prince’s Trust, a UK charity organisation that helps young people change their lives for the better.
I.Vijayakumar, CTO, Wipro
I.Vijayakumar (IVK) is CTO of Wipro’s IT businesses covering Wipro Technologies, Wipro Infotech and Wipro BPO. His responsibilities include technology strategy planning, governance of Centers of Excellence, Innovation process, technical stream management and technology alliances with industry and academic forums. In his earlier role as Vice President of Telecom Applications & Solutions BU at Wipro, he handled the telecom applications business for both product vendors and telecom service providers for driving the growth of network and package solutions into this segment. He has been with Wipro for the last 18 plus years and one of the core members of the telecom solutions group when it was setup more than a decade ago. He has 20 plus years experience in telecom and embedded systems industry and worked in the areas of carrier switches, PBX’s, Voice mail systems, Key Telephone systems, IP telephony and wireless applications. He has also extensive experience in the field of embedded systems in the areas of defence and aerospace communications and control systems. He was also the member of the first innovation council at Wipro and participated in many activities related to the charter, scope and operating model of innovation. He is a lead presenter in many forums covering telecom industry, media and financial & market analysts for Wipro. His current interests include the exploration of new wireless devices, mathematical modeling of telecom networks, integration of IT systems and networks, Physics of music and Theory of Fractals.
Werner Vogels – CTO, Amazon.com
Dr. Vogels is Vice President & Chief Technology Officer at Amazon.com where he is responsible for driving the company's technology vision, which is to continuously enhance the innovation on behalf of Amazon's customers at a global scale.
Prior to joining Amazon, he worked as a researcher at Cornell University where he was a principal investigator in several research projects that target the scalability and robustness of mission-critical enterprise computing systems. He has held positions of VP of Technology and CTO in companies that handled the transition of academic technology into industry. Vogels holds a Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and has authored many articles for journals and conferences, most of them on distributed systems technologies for enterprise computing. He was named the 2008 CTO of the Year by Information Week for his contributions to making Cloud Computing a reality.
Carlos C. Solari - Vice President Quality, Security and Reliability, Alcatel-Lucent, Murray Hill, New Jersey.
Carlos Solari leads a team defining and implementing the respective practices for quality, security, reliability in Alcatel-Lucent. His assignments cover a 29 year career in some of the most sensitive operational roles in ICT: including 13 years as an officer in the U.S. Army, more than 6 years as a senior executive with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and from 2002 to 2005 he served as Chief Information Officer for the Executive Office of the President - the White House. Within Alcatel-Lucent Carlos leads a team of innovators-experts bringing their skills to transform the practice of how reliability and security are applied within the overall context of quality assurance. In April 2009 he co-authored his first book, Security in a Web 2.0+ World, a treatise on the incredible challenges we now face to apply a balanced approach to security in this brave new world of the next generation web technologies. A graduate of Washington and Lee University with a BS in Biology (1979), and the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California; MS in Systems Technologies (1990).
Wendy Mars - Director Datacenter & Virtualisatie, Cisco Systems Europe
Wendy leads a team who are responsible for leading Cisco’s ability to innovate and maintain technical leadership within our customers and the market. She works with Cisco’s customers to help them to understand how Cisco’s data centre strategy can be applied in their environment to benefit their business. Wendy has a BEng(H) in Electronic Engineering of York University, and a MSc in Operational Research of Lancaster University. She used to be the Global CTO at ThruPoint.
Robbert Kuppens - Chief Information Officer, European Markets, Cisco Systems
Robbert Kuppens is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Cisco’s European Markets region.
A member of Cisco’s global IT executive team, Kuppens is responsible for driving alignment and collaboration between the executive leadership team in European Markets and the local and global IT functions. He is also responsible for helping his internal customers adopt Cisco’s collaboration, communication, and virtualization products and services, and sharing those key internal lessons learned with external customers and CIOs. To enable Cisco’s European Markets region to grow beyond a $10 billion business, Kuppens considers excellent customer experience, operational excellence, and leading by innovation as the cornerstones for IT. Kuppens has over 20 years of experience in business and IT management. Prior to joining Cisco, he was a senior partner for e-Strategy at KPMG's Nolan, Norton & Co. At KPMG, he was instrumental in developing the e-business strategy practice across all industries, with a special focus on financial and industrial customers including ING and Philips. Prior to KPMG, he worked for Digital Equipment (DEC) and NCR Corporation. Kuppens frequently speaks at major international executive conferences and lectures on Network Virtual Organizations and Enterprise Information Architectures at the University of Utrecht. To keep the pulse on innovation, he is on the board of advisors for two Dutch start-up companies and is partnering with the venture company BBV.
Kuppens holds a Masters degree in Computer Science, Mathematics and Business Administration from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands. Kuppens is a Dutch native and lives in the Netherlands with his wife and family. He speaks fluent German and English, as well as French and Spanish at a conversational level.
Ettienne Reinecke - Chief Technology Officer & Group Executive: Network Integration
Ettienne Reinecke heads the Group’s new technology and research areas and provides leadership in the Groups’ solution and services strategies. He was on the Board of Dimension Data Holdings from 1998 until 2002, when he joined the newly created Executive Committee. Ettienne has over 18 years experience in the IT services and networking industry. He holds a B.Engineering (Stellenbosch), B. Engineering (Hons) (University of Pretoria) and M.Engineering (University of Pretoria).
Jim Simonelli - Chief Technical Officer, IT Business Schneider Electric
Jim Simonelli is Chief Technical Officer of APC. In 2007, Schneider Electric acquired APC and combined it with MGE UPS Systems to form Schneider Electric’s IT Business Unit, which recorded 2008 revenue of €2,6 billion (including APC-MGE sales of $3.7 billion) and employed 12,000 people worldwide. APC solutions include uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), precision cooling units, racks, physical security, and design and management software, including APC's InfraStruXure® architecture, the industry’s most comprehensive integrated power, cooling, and management solution. Appointed as CTO in December 2007, Jim is responsible for technology direction, product platform roadmaps and system architectures devoted to Power, Cooling, Rack and infrastructure management software. Jim is currently the lead architect of APC’s InfraStruXure® system, leading the effort to expand and enhance integrated data center infrastructure solutions. Prior to his role as CTO, Jim held multiple executive engineering positions with APC including Vice President, System and Platform Architecture and Vice President Solutions Delivery Group. Jim is a frequent speaker at power electronics and information technology conferences. Prior to joining APC in 1991, Jim was employed at Digital Equipment Corporation where he worked in the power electronics design group developing switch mode power supplies and UPS equipment. Jim received his BSEE and MSEE degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and holds eight US patents.
Mark Bregman - Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer at Symantec
Mark Bregman is executive vice president and chief technology officer at Symantec, responsible for the Symantec Research Labs, Symantec Security Response and shared technologies, emerging technologies, architecture and standards, localization and secure coding, and developing the technology strategy for the company. Bregman guides Symantec’s investments in advanced research and is responsible for the company’s development centers in India and China.
Additionally, Bregman leads the field technical enablement team, which works closely with the technical sales team to ensure they are prepared to assist customers in managing the impact of changing and emerging technical requirements.
Bregman joined Symantec through the company’s merger with Veritas Software, where he served as chief technology officer, responsible for cross-product integration, advanced product development, merger and acquisition strategy, and the company’s engineering development centers in India and China.
Prior to joining Veritas, Bregman was CEO of Airmedia, a wireless Internet firm.
Previously, Bregman spent 16 years at IBM where he led the RS/6000 and Pervasive Computing divisions and held senior management positions in IBM Research and IBM Japan. He was also technical assistant to IBM CEO Lou Gerstner.
Bregman holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Harvard College and a master’s degree and doctorate in physics from Columbia University. He is a member of the Visiting Committee to the Harvard University Libraries, a member of the American Physical Society, and a senior member of IEEE. He also serves on the Board of Directors of ShoreTel and the Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium.
Peter Tippett - Vice President of Technology and Innovation, Verizon Business
Peter Tippett is vice president of Technology and Innovation for Verizon Business and is the chief scientist of the security product testing and certification organization, ICSA Labs. An information security pioneer, Tippett has led the computer security industry for more than 20 years, initially as a vendor of security products, and over the past 16 years, as a key strategist. He is widely credited with creating the first commercial anti-virus product that later became Norton AntiVirus. Tippett is best known for his creation of enterprise risk metrics, and large risk intelligence and compliance management programs for enterprises. Tippett served on the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) to guide U.S. efforts in healthcare IT, information security and computational sciences research. InfoWorld recognized Tippett as one of the 25 most influential chief technology officers for 2002. He has also won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Tippett has written many articles and papers on IT and information security and was the founding executive publisher of Information Security Magazine.
Tippett took up his current role following the 2007 acquisition of security specialist Cybertrust by Verizon Business. At Cybertrust, Tippett was the chief technical officer and was instrumental in developing the Cybertrust Security Management Program, which has served over 1,000 organizations for 12 years. He was also chairman of MD-IT, an intelligent transcription company. Before Cybertrust, Tippett was the chief executive officer of the NCSA, then ICSA Labs, and was chairman of TruSecure, the largest private US security services company. In the early 1990s he directed the Enterprise and Security products group at Symantec. In addition to start-up and CEO positions, Tippett has led large software development, product management, production labs, technology research, and intelligence teams in his business career.
Early in his IT career, when he was founder and CEO of software company Certus International, Tippett pioneered and commercialized a string of now-common technologies, including what is now called the “rescue disk,” code signing (hashing for execution control), trusted file execution, anomaly detection, and aspects of mail merge and the “un-do” command. He also created and sold the first cyber insurance to enterprises. Before the first PC was marketed, during the early 1980s, Tippett ran one of the largest open source (shareware) bulletin boards.
Tippett has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kalamazoo College, and holds a doctor of medicine degree and a doctor of philosophy degree in biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University. He has worked as an emergency room doctor and as a helicopter emergency physician in both Ohio and California. He still carries a current California physician and surgeon license. Tippett also worked as a lab technician for Nobel Laureates Robert Bruce Merrifield (who won the prize for chemistry in 1984) and Stanford Moore (chemistry, 1972) at Rockefeller University. He began his career as a commercial pilot and flight instructor and worked as a radio engineer at a US Top-40 radio station during college.
Punit Garg - President & CEO of Reliance Globalcom
Punit Garg, President & CEO of Reliance Globalcom, has been the driving force behind Reliance Globalcom's strategic acquisitions of telecom services companies like Vanco, eWave World and Yipes and successfully transformed Reliance Globalcom into a global telecom powerhouse.
Punit Garg was appointed president of Reliance Globalcom (formerly flag telecom) in January 2006.Prior to this appointment; he served as President, International Business, Reliance Communications. He has also held a number of other key leadership positions during his career in Reliance Communications, where he led the planning and launch of fixed wireless phones, public call office and broadband.
Before joining Reliance Communications, Punit Garg was the Managing Director, Lockheed Martin Global Telecom, responsible for Joint Ventures and Business Management for the South Asia region. He also has significant experience as a senior executive in leading global organizations including COMSAT, Jet Airways and Equant (formerly SITA).
Dan Vesset - Program Vice President IDC’s Business Analytics Research
Dan Vesset is Program Vice President of IDC's Business Analytics research. Mr. Vesset’s research is currently focused on the business intelligence and analytic applications markets, which encompasses multi-dimensional analysis, end-user query and reporting, data mining and other related business intelligence tools, and supply chain and operational analytic applications.
Mr. Vesset has authored numerous research publications involving business intelligence, analytic applications, and data warehousing. In addition, Mr. Vesset has been published and quoted in numerous business and industry publications, including Forbes, Investors Business Daily, CFO, CIO, DM Review, and Intelligent Enterprise. Mr. Vesset is a frequent speaker at business intelligence conferences and seminars worldwide, and has over 10 years of experience as a user, implementer, and analyst of business intelligence software.
Mr. Vesset comes to IDC from Deloitte Consulting where he was a consultant in the Enterprise Applications practice focusing on PeopleSoft implementation projects. In addition, Mr. Vesset led a team that developed an internal consulting methodology tool to be used with Deloitte Consulting clients in support of their project methodology. He also has experience as a systems analyst at State Street Bank & Trust Co. Mr. Vesset earned an MS degree in MIS and an MBA from Boston University.
Paul Excell, Chief Customer Innovation Officer, BT
Paul Excell is Chief Customer Innovation Officer at BT responsible for leveraging BT’s £1.2Bn investment
in a Global Innovation Ecosystem to deliver world leading Innovation Propositions to BT’s key customers
and partners. Paul is Chief Executive of BT’s Customer Innovation “Engage” programme, which unleashes
BT’s innovation ecosystem on the big business opportunities of our key customers, from government
departments to top corporate customers. The Engage defines successful innovation as something that
enhances the performance of the business by reducing costs, bringing in additional profitable revenue
and/or providing sustainable competitive advantage. Paul has 30 years experience in the Global
Networked Economy covering a wide range of national and international assignments. Paul was COO and
Group Technology Officer at BT Group and helped shape BT’s Innovation investment and 21st Century
Network programme (£10bn investment).
Dr. Jonathan Reichental - Partner & IT Innovations Director, PwC
For over 19 years he has been helping organizations across the world leverage the value of information and communications technology to solve business problems, increase effectiveness, and support revenue growth opportunities. His current focus includes IT strategy and innovation, and he delivers specific expertise in emerging technology, Web 2.0, social computing, consumerization, and the impact of macro trends such as demography on organizational success.
Dr. Reichental is a highly sought-after public speaker and presents often on a range of subjects. He has recently addressed audiences at Harvard Business School, Information Management Forum, and the Conference Board Council of CIO Executives. He is interviewed often and has been featured in CIO magazine, InformationWeek and Computerworld. His TV appearances include a recent segment on CNBC.
When not consumed with work or research he enjoys being a private pilot and scuba diver. In addition, he is an avid tennis and chess player, photographer, and plays piano and guitar.
Arjen Dorland - Vice President & Chief Information Officer, Shell Downstream
Originally from the central part of the Netherlands, Arjen graduated from Utrecht University with a Chemistry degree followed by an MBA from Henley in the UK. He joined Shell in 1987. Prior to that he worked in various project management roles in IT and Retail in Fokker Aircraft and Exxon. In Shell he worked in the Netherlands, France, Germany and the UK. He held jobs such as CIO Shell Netherlands and Programme Manager for the European SAP programme. He was appointed CIO for Downstream Europe early 2000 and VP and CIO Global Functions in 2003 until he moved to his current position in 2006. As VP and CIO Downstream he holds global accountability for all Information Technology within the Shell Downstream Oil and Chemicals businesses. His key focus today is on business process simplification and standardization, business portfolio renewal and driving shared services and offshoring. Implementing a global IT portfolio and consolidating all ERP systems is enabling this. Arjen is married and has a son and daughter. Outside work Arjen enjoys traveling, music, sailing, jogging, hiking, and an occasional game of chess.
Ralf Dreischmeier, Vice President and Director, The Boston Consulting Group
